Polyptychus carteri
Male: Head and body pale greyish brown with a dark streak running down the middle of the head and thorax uppersides. Forewing upperside with large chocolate coloured spot near base and another at inner margin near tornus; spots sometimes very pale (form poliades). FWL: 33-35 mm. Female: Larger and darker than the male and with broader wings.
Male genitalia: Tergum A8 with stridulatory organ. Uncus broad, bilobed with lobes rounded. Gnathos cleft forming two lobes, which are twice as long as broad. Valve irregular sole-shaped; patch of stridulatory scales occupying larger part of dorsal surface. Harpe composed of three processes, but shapes and lengths differing from those of Polyptychus trisecta. Phallus with long, movable slender process.
Female genitalia: Tergum A8 broadly rounded, with two projecting, triangular, lateral lobes. Sterigma with high antevaginal ridge, which is incised mesally; lamella postvaginalis membranous.
