Synonymized with the nominotypical subspecies (as ‡seminigra) by d'Abrera, 1987, Sphingidae Mundi: 71. Reinstated as a subspecies of Polyptychus paupercula (Holland) by Bridges, 1993, Cat. Fam. Gen. Spec. Sphingidae of the World: VIII.20.
