Psilogramma baueri Eitschberger, 2001 [Invalid]

SYN. NOV. Psilogramma baueri was distinguished from Psilogramma menephron by a more blurred forewing pattern, somewhat broader saccus, apical “fishtail” process of the phallus with only one point, a “differently shaped” lamella antevaginalis and a broader ductus bursae. Examination of the series in NHMUK showed that most individuals do not have a “blurred” forewing pattern but one that is as sharply defined as in other populations of Psilogramma menephron menephron. All of the structural features are highly variable individually within Psilogramma species and not indicative of species status. Consequently, there is no justification for maintaining Psilogramma baueri as a species. However, Psilogramma baueri does share the shorter and more rounded forewing of Psilogramma menephron menephron and so is here considered to be a junior synonym of the nominotypical subspecies of Psilogramma menephron.
