Psilogramma hauensteini Eitschberger, 2001 [Invalid]

Synonymized with Psilogramma discistriga discistriga by Kitching and Rougerie et al., 2018, Biodivers. Data J. 6: e22236. Psilogramma hauensteini was distinguished from Psilogramma stameri [= Psilogramma discistriga discistriga] by the darker medial area on the forewing upperside of the holotype male, the shapes of the uncus, vinculum, saccus and “colliculum” [= antrum], as well as the lack of a signum. However, all these features are highly variable within species of Psilogramma, and are not indicative of species status. Furthermore, DNA barcode data place the allotype of Psilogramma hauensteini deep within a large cluster formed of numerous samples of Psilogramma discistriga discistriga (In the original description, the habitus of the holotype male of Psilogramma choui was said fit very well with males of Psilogramma choui [= Psilogramma discistriga discistriga], the male genitalia to Psilogramma kleineri [= Psilogramma discistriga discistriga], and the female genitalia were quite similar to those of Psilogramma gerstmeieri [= Psilogramma discistriga discistriga] except for the possession of a signum (although this seems to be contradicted in a subsequent paragraph). However, all these features are highly variable within species of Psilogramma, and are not indicative of species status. Furthermore, DNA barcode data place the holotype of Psilogramma choui deep within a large cluster formed of numerous samples of Psilogramma discistriga discistriga (BIN ACF5359). Consequently, Psilogramma choui is here considered to be a junior synonym of Psilogramma discistriga discistriga.). Consequently, Psilogramma hauensteini is here considered to be a junior synonym of Psilogramma discistriga discistriga.
