Psilogramma hayati Eitschberger, 2004 [Invalid]

Synonymized with Psilogramma discistriga as a subspecies by Kitching and Rougerie et al., 2018, Biodivers. Data J. 6: e22236. Psilogramma hayati was said to differ from other Psilogramma in the prominent discal spot on the forewing upperside, the white underside to the thorax and the abdomen (thus contrasting with all other taxa of the Psilogramma menephron group), and the shapes of the saccus, apical “fishtail” process of the phallus and signum. These structural features are highly variable individually within Psilogramma species and not indicative of species status. The shape of the apical “fishtail” process of the phallus clearly indicates that Psilogramma hayati is closely related to Psilogramma discistriga but has a somewhat different ground coloration to the forewing upperside, with pale elements that are generally more extensive and suffused with a yellowish tone (although the underside of the thorax and abdomen in the two specimens examined is brown, as would be expected for a Psilogramma discistriga/menephron group taxon, rather than white as described by Eitschberger (2001) (STI17742)). In the absence of consistent structural differences, there is no justification for maintaining Psilogramma hayati as a species. However, the coloration difference is considered here to be sufficient justification for treating it as a subspecies of Psilogramma discistriga.
