HOLOTYPE ♂ Philippines: south Leyte, Catman, 22.iii.1994 (Medicielo) [coll. Eitschberger].
Taxonomic Notes:
Synonymized with Psilogramma discistriga discistriga by Kitching and Rougerie et al., 2018, Biodivers. Data J. 6: e22236.
In the original description, Psilogramma medicieloi was compared with Psilogramma menephron menephron from Seram and from Halmahera (as Psilogramma baueri), from which it differed in the more elongate and pointed forewing and the shape of the apical “fishtail” process of the phallus. The shorter forewing is a characteristic of the Moluccan Psilogramma menephron menephron and the difference in the shape of the apical “fishtail” process of the phallus is typical of the Psilogramma discistriga group. However, a study of the specimens and genitalia preparations illustrated by Eitschberger (2001) (STI 17722) and Eitschberger (2004) (STI17742), together with the long series of specimens in NHMUK, failed to uncover any consistent morphological differences from various populations of what is here treated as Psilogramma discistriga discistriga, and so Psilogramma medicieloi is here considered to be a junior synonym of that taxon.
