Psilogramma menephron
One of the "brown" Psilogramma, distinguishable from Psilogramma discistriga and Psilogramma renneri by the elongate apical "fishtail" process on the phallus. Psilogramma menephron menephron differs from the other two subspecies in having slightly shorter and more rounded forewings.
Mesonotum sometimes with 2 black dots. Foretarsal segments 2-5 often dark brown.
Male genitalia: Uncus divided into 2 slender, curved processes that are close together, but are separately moveable. Gnathos short and broad, the lobe broader than long, truncate-sinuate, the angles slightly produced, the sides distally rounded/dilated. Valve with a patch of stridulatory scales about 3x as long as broad, deep brown except at edges. Phallus with apical "fishtail" process longer than wide, sometimes distinctly asymmetrical.
Femlae genitalia: Postostial part of ostial plate sclerotised, smooth, scaled, half-moon shaped, somewhat truncate, the lateral margins elevated. Ostial cavity surrounded proximally and laterally by a wrinkled membranous ridge.
The apical “fishtail” process of the phallus of the holotype of Psilogramma bartschereri agrees with the asymmetrical form found in P. menephron rather than the relatively symmetrical form of P. renneri (including other specimens from Sri Lanka). DNA barcoding of the holotype has shown that it clusters tightly with specimens of Psilogramma menephron nebulosa from New Guinea and Australia. The type locality of "Ceylon" is therefore considered to be erroneous and is not mapped here.
