Taxonomic Notes:
Proposed as a subspecies of Psilogramma stameri. Synonymized with Psilogramma discistriga discistriga by Kitching and Rougerie et al., 2018, Biodivers. Data J. 6: e22236.
Psilogramma stameri chuai was distinguished from the nominotypical subspecies on the basis of the on average longer apical “fishtail” process of the phallus and the lack of a signum. However, both of these structural features are highly variable individually within Psilogramma taxa. Furthermore, DNA barcode data place the holotype of Psilogramma stameri deep within a large cluster formed of numerous samples of Psilogramma discistriga discistriga (BIN AAA2713). Consequently, there is no justification for maintaining Psilogramma stameri chuai as a subspecies (indeed, Psilogramma stameri itself is here considered to be a junior synonym of Psilogramma discistriga discistriga.
