Theretra orpheus subsp. scotinus
Diagnostic description:
Overall, with the exception of the underside of the body, much darker than any other subspecies, although some Theretra orpheus intensa come close. Forewing upperside with pale band between fourth and fifth postmedial lines whitish-grey for the first 3 mm from the inner margin, but otherwise smoky-grey, similar to the greater proportion of the wing area outside this band; medial costal area with a very slight tawny tint. Forewing underside with less prominent lines than Theretra orpheus orpheus, due to the generally darker coloration; submarginal line accompanied distally by a cream band from the inner margin to the centre of the wing; costal margin narrowly beige, turning grey at apex.
