Type data:
HOLOTYPE ♂ Peru: [Puno,] Carabaya, Santo Domingo, x.1902 (G.«R.» Ockenden) [NHMUK].
Taxonomic Notes:
Eitschberger (2001) described Xylophanes lissy from a series of specimens collected in Manu National Park, Cusco Department Peru, comparing them with a series of moths, which he identified as Xylophanes ockendeni, from Vista Alegre and Aguas Verdes, Amazonas Department, Peru. However, the male holotype of Xylophanes ockendeni, in the NHMUK, was collected not in northern Peru but in "Santo Domingo, Carabaya", which is in Puno, the neighbouring department of Cusco to the southeast. Examination of its genitalia has shown that the harpe has the same shape as that illustrated by Eitschberger (2001) for Xylophanes lissy, which should thus be placed in synonymy with Xylophanes ockendeni. The specimens misidentified by Eitschberger (2001) as Xylophanes ockendeni represent a separate but as yet unnamed species.
