Theretra improvisa Darge, 2006

DNA barcode data suggest there is no significant difference between the holotype of Theretra improvisa and populations of Theretra orpheus orpheus on the African mainland. However, there is another sample of Theretra improvisa that falls into a different and separate BIN. It is possible that Theretra improvisa is a good species but with mitochondrial introgression from the sympatric Theretra orpheus orpheus, and that, perhaps unfortunately, the holotype of Theretra improvisa is a specimen with Theretra orpheus orpheus mtDNA. This needs further detailed study.
