Heterocera Brit. Mus. 7: 25, illustrated the male as "typical" but this does not constitute a valid lectotype designation. Synonymized with Ampelophaga rubiginosa by Hampson, [1893], Fauna Brit. India 1: 83. Raised to subspecies status by Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, Novit. zool. 9 (suppl.): 518. Dierl, 1970, Khumbu Himal Ergebn. Forsch.-Unternehmens Nepal Himalaya 3: 327, considered Nepalese Ampelophaga ubiginosa to be subspecies fasciosa, whereas Daniel, 1966, Khumbu Himal Ergebn. Forsch.-Unternehmens Nepal Himalaya 1: 177, treated this population as "harterti". Resynonymized with the nominotypical subspecies by Kitching & Cadiou, 2000, Hawkmoths of the world: 38.
