Andriasa contraria
Habitus: A very variable species in ground colour and degree of development of the darker pattern elements. Forewings short and triangular, apex acute but not falcate. Forewing upperside ground colour varies from very pale buff to yellowish-grey or reddish-buff; numerous irregular transverse lines ranging from highly conspicuous in some individuals to almost absent in others; discal spot varies from almost absent to very large and conspicuous (form stigmatica); submarginal line thin and crenulated, beyond which there is often a series of conspicuous vein dots. Hindwing upperside usually paler than the forewing; postmedian and submarginal lines crenulated and usually present, beyond which there is often a series of conspicuous vein dots. 25-31 mm. Larger than the male, wings longer and narrower, forewing apex strongly acuminate. Forewing upperside marking similar to and as variable as the male, but ground colour darker, reddish-buff to dark reddish-brown.
Male genitalia: Valve lacking stridulatory scales. Phallus and vesica unarmed.
Female genitalia: Corpus bursae lacking a signum.
