Type data:
HOLOTYPE ♂ Indonesia: South Moluccas, Seram, Manusela, 1600m, i.2000 (H. Schnitzler) (BoLD BC-Mel 2368) (gen. prep. 766) [SMCR].
Taxonomic Notes:
Although Melichar, Řezáč & Rindoš (2015) published the DNA barcode of one of the paratypes of Ambulyx rawlinsi (BC-Mel 2369), they made no comparison with the DNA barcode(s) of specimen(s) of Ambulyx charlesi. As of 25/10/2016, there are DNA barcodes in BOLD of five Ambulyx rawlinsi (including three paratypes) from Seram and two Ambulyx charlesi from Buru. The maximum distance between any of these samples is 0.31% and some samples from Seram and Buru show zero pairwise divergence. Thus, it would appear that Ambulyx rawlinsi and Ambulyx charlesi are conspecific.
