Psilogramma menephron subsp. nebulosa Butler, 1876

Synonymized with Macrosila casuarinae by Miskin, 1891, Proc. Roy. Soc. Qd 8: 24. Reinstated as a species by Kirby, 1892, Synonymic Cat. Lepid. Heterocera 1: 683. Resynonymized with Psilogramma menephron menephron by Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, Novit. zool. 9 (suppl.): 44. Reinstated as a species by Eitschberger, 2001, Neue ent. Nachr. 52: 12. Synonymized with Psilogramma menephron as a subspecies by Kitching and Rougerie et al., 2018, Biodivers. Data J. 6: e22236. Psilogramma nebulosa was reinstated as a species by Eitschberger (2001: 12) (STI 17722) without any justification other than stating under the entry for Psilogramma gloriosa: “Brechlin (2001: colour plate 4. fig. 31) illustrates the holotype of Psilogramma nebulosa. It may be that Ps. gloriosa is a synonym of this. However to judge this correctly, it is necessary that the genitalia of the holotype of nebulosa are examined.” The synonymy was confirmed by Rougerie et al. (2014: 5) (STI 20769). However, Psilogramma nebulosa does have a longer a less rounded forewing than Psilogramma menephron menephron and together with the generally brighter pattern (often with grey or white elements) this is considered here to be sufficient justification for treating it as a subspecies of Psilogramma menephron.
