LECTOTYPE ♂ [United States:] Colorado, Glenwood Springs, 19.vi.1901 (Oslar) [NHMUK]; implicitly designated by Rothschild, 1919, Novit. zool. 26: 201, who stated that “On the type label the name is erroneously written H. luscitiosa oslari”, which renders the specimen uniquely identifiable.
Taxonomic Notes:
Proposed as a subspecies of Hyloicus gordius. Synonymized with the nominotypical subspecies by Hodges, 1971, in Dominick et al. Moths Amer. N. of Mexico 21: 65. Reinstated as a subspecies by Kitching & Cadiou, 2000, Hawkmoths of the world: 67. Raised to species status by Kitching and Rougerie et al., 2018, Biodivers. Data J. 6: e22236, and a justification was provided by St Laurent & Kitching, 2023, Annot. Taxon. Checklist Lepid. N. Amer.: 428.
