Taxonomic Notes:
Proposed conditionally as either a new species or a new aberrant form of Macroglossa diffinis. Synonymized with Hemaris diffinis by Maassen, 1880, Stettin. ent. Ztg 41: 69. Reinstated as a species by Kirby, 1892, Synonymic Cat. Lepid. Heterocera 1: 626. Resynonymized with Haemorrhagia diffinis form axillaris by Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, Novit. zool. 9 (suppl.): 448. Reinstated as a species by Schmidt, 2018, Zootaxa 4399 (1): 42.
