Resynonymized with Hemaris hylas by Swinhoe, 1892, Cat. east. and Aust. Lepid. Heterocerca Colln Oxf. Univ. Mus. 1: 2, and then treated as a subspecies of Cephonodes hylas by Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, Novit. zool. 9 (suppl.): 468. Resynonymized with Cephonodes picus by Kitching & Cadiou, 2000, Hawkmoths of the world: 41. Reinstated as a species by Moulds, Tuttle & Lane, 2020, Hawkmoths of Australia: 3, 76.
