Nephele aequivalens subsp. damasioi Deschamps, 2020

Proposed as a subspecies of Nephele aequivalens. The paratype series of Nephele aequivalens damasioi included a specimen from Príncipe that is paler than those from São Tomé but very similar to many continental African specimens. Furthermore, the DNA barcode of this specimen is identical to those of specimens from Nigeria and many other localities in continental Africa. Consequently, it would seem that the population of Nephele aequivalens on Príncipe is attributable to the nominotypical subspecies, not Nephele aequivalens damasioi, and the inclusion of the Príncipe specimen in the paratype series of Nephele aequivalens damasioi is erroneous. This subspecies is thus endemic solely to the island of São Tomé.
