SYNTYPES 1♂ Cayman Islands: Grand Cayman, West end of Georgetown, 19.iv.1938; 1♂ Cayman Islands: Grand Cayman, «West end of» West Bay, 17.vii.1938 «17.viii.1938» [NHMUK]. The label on the second syntype gives an August date, rather than the July date published by Jordan.

Taxonomic Notes:

Proposed as a subspecies of Cautethia grotei. Synonymized with Cautethia noctuiformis hilaris by Carcasson & Heppner, 1996, Atlas Neotrop. Lepid. 4B: 58. Reinstated as a subspecies of Cautethia grotei by Kitching & Cadiou, 2000, Hawkmoths of the world: 40.
