General description:
Synonymized with Cautethia noctuiformis hilaris by Carcasson & Heppner, 1996, Atlas Neotrop. Lepid.4B: 58. Reinstated as a subspecies of Cautethia grotei by Kitching & Cadiou, 2000, Hawkmoths of the world: 40.
Morphology:
Almost identical to Cautethia grotei grotei but generally slightly smaller Forewing upperside as in Cautethia grotei grotei but oblique line at tornus shorter. Hindwing upperside as in Cautethia grotei grotei but yellow basal area deeper yellow. Hindwing underside as in Cautethia grotei grotei but yellow basal area deeper yellow. Extremely similar to those of Cautethia grotei grotei but gnathos apically broader with longer lobes.
