Cechenena chimaera
Male: Very similar to Cechenena aegrota but larger and more robust, and more markedly sexually dimorphic. Underside of abdomen with a series of conspicuous paired black spots on segments 2-5. Forewing upperside similar to Cechenena aegrota but pattern of dark marking more attenuated, the subbasal and antemedial lines faint or absent; postmedian lines clear between costa and Rs4, then almost absent, reappearing below CuA2; line running from apex to M2 serrate only at Rs3, below which it is perfectly straight. Hindwing upperside dark brown; median band dirty yellow, gradually narrowing from tornus and reaching only Rs; costa pure yellow for only half its length. FWL: 43 mm (average); wingspan 84 mm (average = 74-92 mm).
Femle: FWL: 45 mm.
Male genitalia: Similar to Cechenena aegrota but: Harpe slightly longer and rapidly narrowing apically, thus appearing more pointed. Phallus apically curved with two distinct apical teeth.
A record from north Laos is considered to be a misidentification. A record from Hainan is of a moth whose DNA barcode clusters with those of samples of Cechenena chimaera but which looks like a Cechenena aegrota (q.v.). Neither are mapped here.
