Cephonodes apus
Immediately distinguishable by the bicoloured upperside to the abdomen, the anterior half green, the posterior half red. Upperside of head, thorax, wing bases and first four abdominal segments unicolorous green; abdominal segment 5 with red, segment 6-8 red mixed with green; abdominal tuft orange-brown, laterally and latero-basally black. Foretibia lacking an apical claw; forebasitarsus with a dense row of spines that stand at right angles to the segment. Underside of abdomen mixed pale yellow and pale orange.
Male genitalia: Tegumen, vinculum and gnathos as in Cephonodes hylas; apical hook of uncus as in Cephonodes virescens but shorter. Valves as in Cephonodes hylas but: left valve with the upper lobe very much produced and the lower lobe longer, the upper lobe with bristles, the lower with setae; right valve broader,
