Cephonodes banksi
The tri-coloured upperside of the abdomen (anterior dark green, median reddish-orange/cream band, posterior brownish-orange/black) is diagnostic of the species.
Male smaller and paler than Cephonodes banksi johani. Yellow scales surrounding sterigma, anterior to anal tuft, provide a diagnostic character for separating females from males. Abdomen upperside with a prominent transverse white line preceding the reddish-orange band; rear part of abdomen, posterior to the reddish-orange band, brownish-orange. Head, anterior part of thorax, forelegs and midlegs bright orange. Patches at end of abdominal sternites prominent and orange.
Female larger than male and darker. Transverse white line on abdomen upperside, preceding the reddish-orange band, reduced; posterior end of abdomen above black. Yellowish area on underside of thorax, and white lateral spots at ends of abdominal sternites posteriorly, reduced compared to the male.
Valve with dorsal lobe much shorter and narrower in comparison to ventral lobe than in Cephonodes banksi johani. Phallus shorter and medially thinner than in Cephonodes banksi johani. Phallus apex in lateral view shaped like a foot with a recess behind the heel. Vesica unknown.
