Cephonodes janus
Resembling a small Cephonodes rothschildi but immediately distinguishable by the buff-orange (not largely black) underside to the abdomen. Upperside of head, thorax, abdomen and wing bases unicolorous, green in fresh specimens, yellowish in faded ones; abdominal tuft with lateral scales black basally and orange apically. Foretibia lacking an apical claw.Underside of palps almost white; thorax buff-yellow, abdomen buff-orange, both paler medially. Forewing upperside with marginal band about 1.5 mm broad at Rs4.
MAle genitalia: Tegumen and uncus not strongly asymmetrical. Uncus quite short, with almost parallel side, medially divided by a groove, apically separated into two acuminate lobes, their tips somewhat curved inward, and the apical sinus broad. Gnathos produced into two lanceolate processes of unequal length, the left longer than the right. Valves similar to Cephonodes picus but: left valve much narrower, dorsal edge evenly concave, ventral edge evenly convex, apex rounded; apex of right valve more evenly rounded.
