Nomenclature notes:
The original spelling was “ardenia”, which Lewin gave “as a slender mark of respect to the lady [Ardenia], to whom this work is dedicated”. Thon, 1828, Entomologisches Archiv 1: 5, followed by Walker, 1856, List Specimens lepid. Insects Colln Br. Mus., 8: 78 (key), 119, when erecting Cizara, emended the spelling to ardeniae, probably to correct the Latin grammar. Such emendations are unjustified under Article 32.5.1 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. However, the spelling ardeniae, attributed to the original author and date, is in prevailing usage (since Butler, 1876, Trans zool. Soc. Lond. 9: 552) and so should be retained under Article 33.2.3.1 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature.
