Cocytius lucifer
Thorax upperside with black markings prominent against the greyish green ground colour. Markings of the upperside, marginal area of the hindwing, and the underside of the wings often more or less walnut brown. Abdomen upperside with mesial line usually prominent, but sometimes faint or widely interrupted. Foretarsus of both sexes with a comb of spines on segments 2-5. Foretibia a little longer than 1st foretarsal segment, which is itself about twice the length of the 2nd. Midtibia barely 1 mm. shorter than 1st midtarsal segment; hindtibia 2.5-3 mm. shorter than 1st hindtarsal segment. Forewing upperside with dark streaks posterior to veins M3 and CuA1 well marked, though often narrow.
Male genitalia: Uncus prismatically compressed, carinate ventrally, slightly convex dorsally, rounded-dilated distally, the apex a little curved ventrad, with 3 broad, short teeth, of which the middle is the shortest; ventral surface with long bristles forming a subapical "beard". Gnathos flat, slightly convex ventrally, sole-shaped. Valve smaller than in Cocytius duponchel, with a patch of very long bristles dorsal to the base of the harpe. Harpe with long, curved, somewhat ladle-shaped process, sharply dentate distally at ventral and dorsal edges; dorsal side of harpe densely covered with bristles. Phallus with 2 small subapical teeth, the upper minute.
Female genitalia: Sterigma less broad than in Cocytius duponchel. Ostium bursae subapical, the edge raised, but without armature.
