Coelonia solani (Boisduval, 1833)

Lectotype [Madagascar] Plate 11, figure 2, in Boisduval, 1833, Faune ent. Madag. Bourbon, Maurice (Lépid.) [????]; designated by Viette, 1992, Nouv. Revue Ent. (N.S.) 9: 216. Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, Novit. zool. 9 (suppl.): 26, stated that the type was not in Oberthür's collection (now CMNH), but that "the original drawing of the figure published by Boisduval [was] in Oberthür's possession ... and is a very exact likeness of the present insect". They also stated that there was a specimen in MNHN that might be a syntype. Viette (1992) examined this syntype, a female from "Bourbon" [La Réunion] and found it to be a specimen of Coelonia fulvinotata "au sens de Rothschild & Jordan". Hence, Viette chose to designate the specimen illustrated by Boisduval as the lectotype.
