Erinnyis lassauxii (Taxonomy)
Transferred to Erinnyis by Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, Novit. zool.9 (suppl.): 361 (key), 363.
Thoracic crest almost as high as in Erinnyis alope.Abdominal tergites black, except for narrow, dorsally interrupted, sharply defined grey apical belts. Forewing upperside resembles Erinnyis crameri; dark, with a large, triangular, apical grey patch on the costa. Hindwing upperside deeper orange (sometimes almost brown) than in other species of Erinnyis. Three forms are recognized; form lassauxii, in which the orange colour is largely replaced by brown; form omphaleae, in which the inner edge of the brown marginal band extends basad into the orange area along the veins; and form merianae, in which the inner edge of the brown marginal band is even and sharply defined. Uncus lobes broader and shorter than in the other species, somewhat obtusely acuminate, the processes not essentially longer than the uncus, curved downward and very little outward at end.Harpe with upper edge apically rounded-dilated, the dilated part elliptical.
