Erinnyis yucatana (Taxonomy)
Transferred to Erinnyis by Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, Novit. zool.9 (suppl.): 362 (key), 366.
Forewing pattern more similar to some species of Isognathus but immediately distinguishable from members of that genus by the orange hindwing upperside.Sexual dimorphism as in Erinnyis ello and Erinnyis obscura, with males having a median longitudinal black streak that is absent in females. Upperside of abdomen unbanded. Outer series of spines on forebasitarsus doubled, at least at base. Median longitudinal black streak on forewing upperside more or less interrupted, widened distally and zigzagged; oblique streak above tornus vestigial (distinct in Erinnyis obscura). Hindwing upperside with blackish marginal band poorly defined and often almost entirely lacking except as a series of narrow lines along the veins distally. Uncus lobes shorter than those of gnathos.Harpe short and stout.Aedeagus different from that of other Erinnyis: dentate part of right edge very short, the row reduced to a few setae; left row also short, consisting of about five setae; apical process rather prominent, with a short but obvious carina before end and a seta at the tip.
