Synonymized with Philampelus vitis by Grote & Robinson, 1865, Proc. ent. Soc. Philad.5: 156. Reinstated as a species by Weymer, 1875, Stett. ent. Ztg36: 49. However, most subsequent authors overlooked this reinstatement (although M├Âschler and Burmeister were notable exceptions) until Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, Novit. zool.9 (suppl.): 491-2, settled the matter. Transferred to Eumorpha by Hodges, 1971, in Dominick et al., Moths Amer. N. of Mexico21: 122 (key), 126.
