Eumorpha fasciatus tupaci (Taxonomy)
Diagnostic description:
The shape of the anterior plate of the harpe would not appear to be a diagnostic feature as the harpe of the specimen of Eumorpha fasciatus fasciatus from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, illustrated by Rothschild & Jordan (1903: pl. 48, fig. 6) is essentially identical to that of Eumorpha fasciatus tupaci illustrated by Kernbach (1962: fig. 9).
Morphology:
Similar to Eumorpha fasciatus fasciatus but smaller. Wingspan: average = 89.9 mm (n = 5) (average = 96.6 mm, n = 5 in Eumorpha fasciatus fasciatus). Wingspan = 71 mm (n = 1). Similar to Eumorpha fasciatus fasciatus but harpe smaller, anterior plate narrower and bluntly pointed, apical hook stronger.
