HOLOTYPE ♂ Colombia: Rio Dagua (W. Rosenberg) [BMNH]. This species was possibly also referred to, and the larva illustrated, by Burmeister, 1878, Descr. physique République Argentine 5: 36, as "Philampelus spec." However, Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, Novit. zool. 9 (suppl.): 486, queried the identification of the larva. Transferred to Eumorpha by d'Abrera, [1987], Sphingidae Mundi: 122.
