Nyceryx alophus (Taxonomy)
Proposed as a "modification locale" of Perigonia nephus. Raised to species status and transferred to Nyceryx by Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, Novit. zool.9 (suppl.): 416 (key), 421. d'Abrera, [1987], Sphingidae Mundi: 110, believed that the male genitalia differences observed by Rothschild & Jordan between this species and N. nephus were just individual variation and that the two species were synonymous.
Inner margin of tegula not quite as white as Nyceryx continua continua.Pronotum and anterior part of mesonotum more or less variegated with brown. Forewing upperside more variegated than Nyceryx continua continua owing to the lines being more distinct; discal spot narrow, elongate; an abbreviated subbasal blackish band present. Hindwing upperside with basal yellow area reaching the inner margin. Uncus, gnathos and harpe as in Nyceryx continua continua.Juxta symmetrical, with a short , heavily dentate process on each side, and a longer, compressed, apically rounded and slightly widened process that curves mesad and is densely beset with minute teeth.Aedeagus with a short, spatulate whip.
