[HOLOTYPE ♂] Brazil: [probably Rio de Janeiro State] [CMNH]. A holotype was inferred from Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, Novit. zool. 9 (suppl.): 422.
Taxonomic Notes:
Synonymized with Perigonia continua by Maassen, 1880, Stettin. ent. Ztg 41: 69. Reinstated as a species by Kirby, 1892, Synonymic Cat. Lepid. Heterocera 1: 637. Transferred to Nyceryx by Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, Novit. zool. 9 (suppl.): 416 (key), 422. The specimens referred to by Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, Novit. zool. 9 (suppl.): 422, as Nyceryx nephus do not match the holotype and are probably a different species.
Nomenclature notes:
First published as a nomen nudum by Ménétriés, 1857, Enumeratio Corporum Anim. Mus. imp. Acad. Sci. Petropolitanae (Ins. Lepid.) 2 (Lepid. Heterocera): 95, and attributed to "Becker, Paris".
