Pachylia syces
Abdominal spines contiguous, long and short ones alternating almost regularly. Palp triangular, pointed. Merum of midcoxa and hindcoxa somewhat angulate. Abdominal spines on sternites much weaker than on tergites and more numerous; sternite 1 with spines. Hindbasitarsal segment about two-thirds the length of the tibia, barely as long as segments 2 to 4 together, spurs shorter than in Pachylia ficus. Forewing upperside with pale medial band separated into two patches; one costal, large, including the discal spot; the other small, on the inner margin, sometimes vestigial. Occasionally the patches connected into a continuous transverse band (as in Pachylia syces insularis) but if so, the band so formed strongly constricted. Hindwing upperside almost unicolorous, darkened distally, without distinct bands; conspicuous white tip to vein 2A (as in Pachylia ficus). Forecoxal hair-brush small.
Male genitalia: Uncus divided into two lobes, which are widely separated by a rounded sinus, the lobes broad, slanting, somewhat twisted, apically roundly excised. Gnathos produced into two processes that are very much longer than the uncus and internally dilated into a broad tooth. Valve rather narrower than in Pachylia ficus. Harpe similar to Pachylia ficus but spines heavier, apex broader. Phallus obtuse, some minute setae on left side, numerous spines on the vesica.
Female genitalia: Sternite 7 broader than long, trapezoidal, apex truncate, not membranous and lacking spines.Tergite 8 short, truncate, shallowly sinuate, membranous in middle distally. Sterigma distally sharply defined, the apical margin raised, angulate medially, continued basad, forming the border of a large, medial, rounded depression, in which is situated the rather small ostium bursae. Anterior edge of ostium bursae raised.
