Taxonomic Notes:
Transferred to Clarina by Hampson, 1903 March 15, Entomologist's Rec. J. Var. 15 (3): 76. Raised to species status by Ebert, 1976, J. ent. Soc. Iran 3: 86. Resynonymized with Clarina kotschyi as a subspecies by Pittaway, 1993, The hawkmoths of the Western Palaearctic: 119. Reinstated as a species by Danner, Eitschberger & Surholt, 1998, Herbipoliana 4 (1): 168.
Nomenclature notes:
Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, Novit. zool. 9 (suppl.): 520, incorrectly treated syriaca as the senior name for Berutana kotschyi. This error was corrected in the Corrigenda (Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, Novit. zool. 9 (suppl.): 935).
